Description

CALEA currently has an opening for the position of Regional Program Manager. This is a part- time position without benefits, requiring on average less than 30 hours of work each week. Compensation will be based on qualifications and hours worked, and will generally range from $58,000 to $63,000 annually.

CALEA aspires to have Regional Program Managers live and work in their assigned region and for this reason preference will be given to applicants from the Mid-Atlantic region. The Mid- Atlantic region consists of West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. CALEA is a not-for-profit public safety credentialing organization that provides professional accreditation services for law enforcement agencies, public safety communication agencies, public safety training academies, and campus security organizations. CALEA has been in existence for more than 40 years and is governed by a board of 21 Commissioners. More than 1,300 clients actively participate in CALEA programming, and the organization’s primary mission is to enhance public safety professionalism through the promulgation and administration of standards.

Position Overview:
The Regional Program Manager reports directly to the Director of Client Services and Relations. The position is critical to client retention and recruitment and must effectively serve as a CALEA Accreditation expert and resource

The primary objectives of this position are:

  1. Attract new clients to CALEA Accreditation Programs
  2. Provide accreditation related support services to enrolled agencies

The position requires the ability to establish effective working relationships with chief executive officers and the staff of law enforcement agencies, public safety communication centers, public safety training academies, and private security organizations. The position also requires effective interaction at a professional level with elected officials, city managers, and other organization leaders who are associated with the field of public safety.

A significant aspect of the work involves establishing and maintaining effective contact with current and potential clients. This position also requires a broad knowledge of public safety policies, operational procedures, and administrative practices. Crucial elements include providing public safety agencies with accreditation related technical support and serving as a strong communication resource concerning CALEA Accreditation programming. This position

requires the ability to research and analyze trends and patterns and apply data to develop and direct work activities. The position also requires the capacity to plan and prioritize work, report on initiatives and impacts, present effectively in written and verbal formats, utilize organization goals and directives to develop work strategies, and prepare and deliver client resources. The person selected for the position must be able to work with minimal supervision and use general direction to develop specific work activities. The Regional Program Manager must be effective in using contemporary office automation and remote work technologies, as well as have the capacity to employ conferencing technologies to deliver information to clients across the CALEA service areas and regions.

The position will not supervise staff but will occasionally be required to direct contract employees on projects and services.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree is desired, but an equivalent combination of experience, training, and education may be considered. Additionally, CALEA is seeking candidates that can work and reside in the specified geographic regions, as these are remote work positions requiring professional relationship building with public safety professionals within the regions.

The successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of public safety policies, operational procedures, and administrative practices. Additionally, they will have the ability to develop and maintain marketing leads from self-initiated activities, as well as the ability to initiate and maintain interactive relationships to effectively explain the CALEA Accreditation Programs and related concepts to agency executives and community decision-makers. 

Regional Program Managers must be able to work under general to no supervision on specialized tasks or technical issues and evaluate reports and documents to determine compliance with CALEA standards. The successful candidate will be able to assemble materials and resources to support the needs of clients and potential client agencies and make decisions based on the analysis of pertinent information and public safety trends. 

The successful candidate will be able to develop lesson plans and present effective training and information about the accreditation process. They will be able to deal tactfully, courteously, and effectively with a wide range of clients, employees, and the general public.

The position requires travel periodically for periods up to one week. The successful candidate must be able to travel by any contemporary means of transportation including airlines, automobile, or rail. They must also be available to work evenings and weekends and maintain availability by telephone as required.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must be proficient in using Microsoft Office products including Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. They must be able to become proficient with CALEA systems and be able to use a keyboard or other comparable mediums to meet work requirements. They must be willing and able to effectively use Salesforce software for prospect and client management.
