Training Academy
The Public Safety Training Academy Accreditation Program is designed to provide administrative and operational support to contemporary organizations with the responsibility for training public safety officials.
The program focuses on basic as well as advanced curriculums, with the emphasis on sound instructional techniques, facilities management, student safety, records integrity, and a host of other issues that promote the professional delivery of training within the public safety industry.
This results in the clear identification of training institutions that set the standards for others to follow.
Benefits of CALEA Accreditation
Eligibility
Eligibility to participate in the Public Safety Training Academy Accreditation Program is limited to governmental organizations, accredited colleges and universities.
Also eligible are organizations authorized by an appropriate authority to provide comprehensive basic public safety training programs, advanced or in-service training, or which have been determined appropriate by the Commission.
Short-term specialty training programs are generally not eligible.
The Standards
Standards, as set out by the Commission, are subject to ongoing review and revision. When modifications are recommended, they are presented to the Commission's Standards Review and Interpretation Committee (SRIC) for consideration.
The standards are formulated with sensitivity to the agency’s mandated functional responsibilities. This strategy ensures agencies are accountable to relevant standards, which are also delineated into mandatory and other-than-mandatory categories.
NOTE: Agencies eligible to participate in more than one CALEA Accreditation program can apply the Multiple Accreditation Process Model. For more information please contact your Regional Program Manager.
