During the Celebration Banquet at the Spring 2013 CALEA Conference held in North Charleston, South Carolina, the CALEA TRI-ARC Award was presented. The award was created to recognize entities that concurrently hold all three CALEA Accreditation Awards: Law Enforcement, Public Safety Communications, and Public Safety Training Academy.
The latest recipients of the CALEA TRI-ARC Award are the Newport News, Virginia Police Department and the Shelby County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office.
The award name was selected to reflect the three accreditation programs (“TRI”) and symbolize the synergistic power and light created as the result of an unusual achievement (“ARC”). A handsome cherry wood obelisk statute was created to represent the award.
The Newport News Police Department is led by Chief James D. Fox; the Law Enforcement Accreditation Manager is Mr. Nathan Miller; the Training Academy Accreditation Manager is Captain Stacy Kelly; and the Communications Accreditation Manager is Ms. Carol Render. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is led by Sheriff Bill Oldham; Director James Wilson is the Accreditation Manager for law enforcement, training academy, and communications.
