During the Celebration Banquet at the Spring 2012 CALEA Conference held in Mobile, Alabama, the Maryland Transportation Authority Police Force was honored with the CALEA TRI-ARC Excellence Award. The award was created to recognize entities that concurrently hold the CALEA Accreditation Awards: Law Enforcement, Public Safety Communications, and Public Safety Training Academy.
The award name was selected to reflect the three accreditation programs ("TRI") and symbolize the synergistic power and light created as the result of an unusual achievement ("ARC"). A handsome cherry wood obelisk statute was created to represent the award.
The Maryland Transportation Authority Police Force is led by Major Michael Kundrat, acting chief. This agency has been law enforcement accredited since March 2001, and training academy and communications accredited since March 2012.
The law enforcement accreditation manager is Sergeant Michelle Mount; the training academy accreditation manager is First Sergeant John Frank; and the communications accreditation manager is Sergeant Michael McCullough.
