During the Celebration Banquet at the Fall 2009 CALEA Conference held in Salt Lake City, the CALEA TRI-ARC Excellence Award was presented. The award was created to recognize entities that, concurrently, hold all three CALEA Accreditation Awards: Law Enforcement, Public Safety Communications, and Public Safety Training Academy.

The recipient of the latest CALEA TRI-ARC Excellence Award is the Prince William County Police Department, the Office of Public Safety Communications, and the Criminal Justice Academy, Prince William, Virginia.

 The award name was selected to reflect the three accreditation programs (“TRI”) and symbolize the synergistic power and light created as the result of an unusual achievement (“ARC”). A handsome cherry wood obelisk statute was created to represent the award.

The Prince William County Police Department is lead by Chief of Police Charlie T. Deane and First Sergeant Dawn Harman is the Accreditation Manager; it has been Law Enforcement Accredited since November 1987. The Commanding Officer for the Prince William County Office of Public Safety Communications is Captain Ted S. McInteer and the Communications Manager is Ms. Hazel L. Colson; it received initial Public Safety Communications Accreditation in March 2003. Captain Alfred Miller is Director of the Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy and Ms. Jan Judy is the Academy Accreditation Manager; it received initial Public Safety Training Academy Accreditation at the Salt Lake City Conference.

December 1, 2009, CALEA Executive Director Sylvester Daughtry and Program Manager Dennis Hyater attended the Prince William County Board of Supervisors Meeting, where Executive Director Daughtry presented a TRI-ARC statue to the county for its support and leadership in public safety.
